A Few Great Exercises for the Elderly That Can Be Done at Home
Physical activity can become more challenging as we get older, this could lead to a lack of exercise which could result in an unhealthy weight gain. Luckily a rigorous exercise program is not required to help you stay fit at an old age. There are actually many simple exercises that can be done at home which can help promote your physical health. With services like our home health care in Stockbridge, Georgia, your elderly loved are assisted and encouraged to exercise more often.
From us here are Pacific Health Systems here are a few great exercises that can be easily performed by the elderly at home:
- Wall Push-Ups. As we get older, we naturally become less flexible and our bones and muscles tend to get weaker. This can make doing regular push-ups more difficult. Try wall push-ups instead by leaning against a wall like you would a floor push-up and push against it. This is a great and safe exercise that can promote joint and muscle strength in the upper body. Through services like our personal care in Georgia, we will assure that your elderly loved ones perform this exercise safely.
- Static Stretching Exercises. These are great in promoting strength and flexibility for the elderly. There are many different ways that static stretching can be performed; a few examples include standing on tiptoes and holding the position and stretching the arms upward or forward.
- Walking in place or around the home. Exercise does not have to be rigorous for the elderly. At the minimum, it is enough that they move around which will enable them to work their muscles. A great example of this is as simple as walking. Walking in place or around the home a few minutes every day will help promote strength, balance, and flexibility for the elderly.
